More Award Winning Books: Adaptations, Interesting Narrators and More.
Hello everyone, Today I wanted to share a few books that have come out in recent years and received awards. I am always surprised by the number of books that I have never heard of when I look at award lists, and while it does get a big overwhelming, it also sometimes pushes books I have wanted to read higher up my TBR. Below are some of the ones I am interested in – if you want to learn more about the prospective awards, or find some books you might want to read, you can check out my full database of Current Book Award Winners as well. January 2021: A Month Full of Cozy, Comfy Reads
Hello everyone, My reading year got off to an OK start this year. It has honestly been great, but I am aware of the fact that I am focusing mostly on comfort reading that doesn’t have a ton of substance. I did try and pick up a more serious book at one point, and ultimately decided to give into my need for comfort reading of all kinds. I got to start my Miss Marple books (HERE and HERE), and I really enjoyed some great cozy reading. Great Comfort Reads Of course I have comfort reads to share with you this month! The two favorites I have to share with you…

November: Old Favorites, Graphic Novels and American Voices
Hello Everyone, November was a big month for me in terms of my 2020 reading. It started with a lot of escapist reading as we waited with bated breath for the results of the election, and ended with a lot of escapist reading when I got hit by Covid-19 and spent about a week in bed. I also started leading a graphic novel book club, and had a great time doing “research” for it! Today I have three pairs of books for you that fall into some fun categories. These books cover YA to adult, brand new to old classics, and I hope there is something for everyone for you!…

October: A Belated Update
Whoops. Somewhere in the muck that was early November, I totally forgot to write my monthly update for October! October was a reset month for me: I finished/planned the last of my book challenges for the year and knocked out a ton of books I have wanted to read for quite a while. The truth is though, I have struggled to find books that cut through the fog of stress and overwhelming fear that was my reality for much of October. I read 15 books in the month, and I have a hard time recalling any of them unless I have them written down in front of me. They weren’t…

Summer Genre Awards – The Hugos
This is the award I was the most excited for by far! Awarded by the World Science Fiction Society, the Hugo Awards are the Emmys of the Science Fiction and Fantasy community, with awards going to books, TV shows and more and winners being decided by members of the society, who are often readers. They were also the center of a controversy a few years ago in which a group of science fiction readers, self titled as the “Sad Puppies” hijacked the awards in an effort to promote a right-wing, anti-diversity agenda that aimed to remove the “political” and “message-fic” books by diverse authors and women that were “taking over”…

I have a monthly reading post coming your way in the next few days, but in the meantime, I wanted to give you all some updates on a few great awards that have come out in the past month or so. These are great awards to check out if you have a special person in your life who loves comics, romance or science fiction, if you are curious about these genres yourself and want a good entry point, or if these genres are some of your favorites and you want to get the next best thing! Today, I am highlighting the Eisner Awards, a…

My Reading Month: July
This is about 10 days late, but there has been plenty going on in my life lately! Between visits from family and visits to family and friends my July was fairly light on reading, but I do have some to talk about. I started a few books this month and struggled to find my groove in any of them. However, I did read some beautiful graphic novels and finish some audio-books. The two reads I want to highlight are Pride of Baghdad and The Winter of the Witch. Pride of Baghdad by Brian K. Vaughan This was a beautiful graphic novel based on the true story of a group of…
