My 2023 in Books: From Satisfying Mysteries to Quirky Sci-Fi

    January 7, 2023 /

This was a strange reading year, because hiking the PCT had a massive impact on what kind of books I was reading and how I was reading them. For example, I read almost 20 books on my kindle, which was a new experience for me, and one I didn’t hate, although nothing can replace the joys of paper books. I haven’t opened my kindle since getting off the trail, but the appeal of library books I can’t get anywhere else my end up changing that. Similarly, I listened to a lot of books. This isn’t necessarily new, but the proportion of books I listened to while on the trail was…

What I’ve Been Reading Lately: Deep Connections

    November 18, 2022 /

I have spent the last couple months trying to figure out a way to get “back into” my blog, and I think the easiest way is to simply dive in with a general update and a sense of what I have been reading lately! This past summer, my husband and I spent 5 months hiking the Pacific Crest Trail, which was the experience of a lifetime. We documented it over on Instagram at @emma_mike_pct if you want a little more about that, and I do have a book related PCT post in the works! It was impossible, wonderful and generally the hardest and best thing I have ever done. Nowadays,…

Irish Stories: Nonfiction, Mysteries, Cozy Books and More

    March 17, 2021 /

Hello everyone, In honor of St Patrick’s Day (which I think is a much bigger holiday in the United States than it is in Ireland), I did want to share some wonderful Irish stories with you all. Ireland is a country that has a rich storytelling culture and nowhere is that more evident than in their literature! Below you will find great Irish suggestions of all kinds, from highbrow literary fiction to really fun television. I tried to find options from both Northern Ireland and the country of Ireland, and I hope you find something that works for you here! This is by no means comprehensive, so chime in if…

January 2021: A Month Full of Cozy, Comfy Reads

    February 3, 2021 /

Hello everyone, My reading year got off to an OK start this year. It has honestly been great, but I am aware of the fact that I am focusing mostly on comfort reading that doesn’t have a ton of substance. I did try and pick up a more serious book at one point, and ultimately decided to give into my need for comfort reading of all kinds. I got to start my Miss Marple books (HERE and HERE), and I really enjoyed some great cozy reading. Great Comfort Reads Of course I have comfort reads to share with you this month! The two favorites I have to share with you…

What Book Would You Never Let Someone Borrow?

    July 24, 2020 /

The other day, I saw the question: “What book would you never let someone borrow?” I loved this question, but I wanted more than one answer for you. So I invited my mother to give me a book too! My mom is an incredible author in her own right (she wrote the amazing Living and Dying Without a Map), and you can hear from both of us below. Don’t forget to leave a comment with the book you would never let someone borrow too! Emma I am an inveterate book giver and lender. When I love a book, I want others to read it and I am always happy to…
