Exploring Books, The Pride Edition: Transgender and Non-Binary Stories
Welcome to June! May has passed by way to fast for me, but I certainly am enjoying the longer days, the warmer evenings and dreaming about fun weekend adventures. With June being Pride month for the LBGTQ+ community, this year especially, with the trans community being so viciously targeted across the country, it feels especially important to highlight some books that help explain or process the trans and non-binary experience. I’ve worked to include books for people of all ages and I have mostly chosen books I have read or am familiar with, but there are so many more books out there! Choosing books for this is NOT easy mostly…

January Reads: Leadership, New (and Old) Children’s Classics, and Great Non-Fiction
Hello Everyone, It is hard to believe that the first month of 2023 has already come and gone! This month has been hectic and stressful for me on a personal level, and I am hoping that February brings a little more clarity and sense of purpose. I am struggling to focus on reading right now, and I am recognizing that the next few months will perhaps be a little less full of books than I would like. That being said, I have a lot to share with you today. One of my goals for this year is to read more books I truly love and to figure out which books…

October: A Belated Update
Whoops. Somewhere in the muck that was early November, I totally forgot to write my monthly update for October! October was a reset month for me: I finished/planned the last of my book challenges for the year and knocked out a ton of books I have wanted to read for quite a while. The truth is though, I have struggled to find books that cut through the fog of stress and overwhelming fear that was my reality for much of October. I read 15 books in the month, and I have a hard time recalling any of them unless I have them written down in front of me. They weren’t…

September: I am OVER IT! (also some book recs)
I know its taken longer than it has for others for this to hit, but this month I am just DONE. I’m over it, and it is hard to cut through that stupor. The (only) vacation I have taken in the last 9 months turned into a “fun as a story, but not at the time” adventure, our dog has been sick (she has medication now and is feeling better, but it was a lot of sleepless nights), work is incredibly busy, and I can’t get to everything I need to get to, Covid-19 cases are finally starting to increase in our small community (where much of the population refuses…

My Reading Month: February
Hello! I “slowed down” this month in terms of reading, mostly meaning I listened to a few more audiobooks, and made it through fewer actual books. This was because I hit a slump with a few books that were tough to get through, and because it has just been a busy month. I have also been struggling because the political events of the past few months have left me feeling very raw, particularly as I look at who the media and the powers that be seem to want to tell stories about, and how blatant that can be and still be considered to be acceptable. I will likely have more…
