Announcing: The Miss Marple Reread

Hello everyone,

For the last couple of years, I have started every year by treating myself to a special edition of something and rereading a classic. Two years ago, I reread all of the Anne of Green Gables series (you can read my final thoughts on that HERE), and last year, I reread all of Jane Austen’s books from a really beautiful boxed set.

This year, I am reading Agatha Christie’s Miss Marple books! With everything that has happened in 2020, I have found murder mysteries to be weirdly satisfying, and no one is better at weaving entertaining mysteries than the wonderful Agatha Christie.

I also found a set of these books with creepy and beautiful covers published by Fontana books (there is a blog post about these covers HERE), and bought myself the full set of the Miss Marple books.

If you are not already familiar, Miss Marple is a sharp and unobtrusive woman who lives in the village of St Mary Mead, and generally listens observes and knits while she solves her crimes. She is often confided in, rarely seen as a threat, and is utterly delightful. I haven’t actually read all of these books, so I am excited to discover some new books and revisit old favorites.

If you want to follow along, the books (in order) are:

  1. The Murder at the Vicarage (1930)
  2. The Thirteen Problems (1932)
  3. The Body in the Library (1942)
  4. The Moving Finger (1943)
  5. A Murder Is Announced (1950)
  6. They Do It with Mirrors (1952)
  7. A Pocket Full of Rye (1953)
  8. 4.50 from Paddington (1957)
  9. The Mirror Crack’d from Side to Side (1962)
  10. A Caribbean Mystery (1964)
  11. At Bertram’s Hotel (1965)
  12. Nemesis (1971)
  13. Sleeping Murder (1976)
  14. Miss Marple’s Final Cases (1979)
  15. Miss Marple: The Complete Short Stories (1985)

I will start posting reviews of books and shows in January, and I look forward to reading along with you!
