Weekend Joys in Books and More: January 29th

    January 29, 2021 /

Hello everyone! First things first, HOW is it almost February already? This past week went by incredibly fast. I feel like I’m always on the verge of having everything unravel underneath me these days, so a lot of the things I have to share below are more about holding it together than anything else. 1.) This is one of the sweetest and most honest biographies (about a dog) I have ever read. 2.) This had some of the more interesting questions I have seen about reading and returned what felt like a realistic result 3.) I don’t know if I have fully shared my undying love for Rupaul’s Drag Race…

Miss Marple: The Thirteen Problems/The Tuesday Club Murders

    January 27, 2021 /

“Human nature is always interesting… And it’s curious to see how certain types always tend to act in exactly the same way.” p 167 Hello! Today, I am here to talk about the Miss Marple introduction we deserve, known in the UK as The Thirteen Problems and in the US as The Tuesday Club Murders. And in fact, a few of these short stories did appear in print before the Murder at the Vicarage, so I feel justified in making this statement. The Book I am realizing as I start this reread that I have actually not read a lot of the Miss Marple books in their original form as…

Weekend Joys in Books and More: January 22nd

    January 22, 2021 /

Happy Friday! This week has been a bit of a rollercoaster, and I’m finding my wanderlust kicking in despite the fact that I can’t go anywhere right now! Going into the weekend, I hope you enjoy this eclectic collection of reads, watches and lists. 1.) This story about a thru-hiker mystery on the Appalachian trail come to an interesting and uncomfortable resolution, but it is a good read! It also reminded me of the excellent book, The Stranger in The Woods. 2.) On a similar note, you can hike the PCT through the eyes of many hikers HERE. These are quite addicting and fun to compare! 3.) Do you ever…

Weekend Joys in Books and More: January 15th

    January 15, 2021 /

Happy Friday! I know that I have certainly been shaken by what is happening in the US over the past few weeks. It is a lot to process, and I am trying to take as much time as I can to give both myself and those around me grace as we process the almost insane amount of baggage we are being handed. This week, I have 5 things to help you start your weekend off in the best frame of mind possible. 1.) When I get tense at night and have trouble sleeping, I tend to lean towards soothing audiobooks. My go to is Lord of the Rings, and I…

Miss Marple: Murder At The Vicarage

    January 13, 2021 /

“I know that in books it is always the most unlikely person. But I never find that rule applies in real life. There it is so often the obvious that is true.” p 216 Hello!Welcome to the first post of my 2021 Miss Marple read through. In which the choice of first person narration is confusing, we visit St Mary Mead, and the inimitable Jane Marple solves her first case with very little effort and lots of knitting. The character of Jane Marple was inspired by Christie’s grandmother, although “much more fussy and less spinsterish”, and I have always enjoyed her calm, observational style of murder solving. She is the…

This first week of 2021 is proving to be no less eventful! I hope you all have a wonderful and relaxing weekend. 1.) My obsession over the holiday break was this relaxing and soothing television show. Who knew kiln firing could be so dramatic!? 2.) I love a good literary map – Take this fun quiz and see how many of these do you recognize? 3.) This is such a sweet gift idea! 4.) Ice Skating + Drag = This incredibly cool video. 5.) The internet of the early 2000s was a weird place.

My Best Reads of 2020: Classics, Science Fiction and Plenty of Tears

    January 2, 2021 /

So in honor of a particularly unlucky year (and because I read too many books to narrow the list further), below are my top 13 books of the year. I read a LOT this year, but these are the books that managed to capture my attention and interest in what was an otherwise pretty insane year. This is an eclectic mix, including books about places from Egypt to Montana, classics, historical fiction, memoirs, and soaring science fiction and fantasy that takes you back in time to Troy and to distant planets filled with life. The one thing that surprised me is that while I did a lot of comfort reading…

    Weekend Joys, Books and 2021!

    January 1, 2021 /

Hello everyone, Well, the first day of 2021, and I am here to share a few fun weekend treats to enjoy the first day of this new year! 1.) I don’t know what I find more amusing, this SNL skit, or these responses. 2.) Are you a leftover lover or a leftover hater? Either way, you may enjoy this new show. Now I need the cookbook. 3.) What should your first book of 2021 be? I got These Violent Delights, which is a Shangahi based adaptation of Romeo and Juliet and looks really cool. 4.) If you are wanting to read more in 2021, check out my post about ways…

    Announcing: The Miss Marple Reread

    December 21, 2020 /

Hello everyone, For the last couple of years, I have started every year by treating myself to a special edition of something and rereading a classic. Two years ago, I reread all of the Anne of Green Gables series (you can read my final thoughts on that HERE), and last year, I reread all of Jane Austen’s books from a really beautiful boxed set. This year, I am reading Agatha Christie’s Miss Marple books! With everything that has happened in 2020, I have found murder mysteries to be weirdly satisfying, and no one is better at weaving entertaining mysteries than the wonderful Agatha Christie. I also found a set of…

Weekend Joys, Books and More: December 18th

    December 18, 2020 /

Is it just me, or does it feel a little early to start doing the “Best of 2020” lists? Maybe I’m a bit of a grinch, but I always feel like these lists forget that one 12th of the year happens in December! This weekend, I may not have a best of list, but I do have some fun things to check out: 1.) These are hilarious, and the prints are probably one of my favorite gift ideas for outdoorsy people! 2.) These are some fun book pairings. 3.) I made this for an (outdoor) party the other night, and I think it may become my new appetizer disk for…
